MUSIC 2000 was released in May 2000. Most software at the time was targeted to users of Windows 9x (95, 98, ME): computers which had a 16-bit kernel based on MS-DOS. When Microsoft released Windows XP in October 2001, they changed to a 32-bit “Windows NT” kernel: the basis of Windows as we know it today.

As such, programs like MUSIC 2000 and MUSIC 2002 are difficult to run on modern computers. Usually they don’t work at all.

But... what if DJ FREETHROW built you a custom computer to run this software in 2025? Enter MUSICMACHINE.

MUSICMACHINE is a virtual computer which has MUSIC 2000 and MUSIC 2002 pre-installed, along with the right drivers and settings for proper operation. It saves you the time and headache of sourcing, importing, installing, and configuring all the individual parts on your own (believe me, there was time and headache).

The technical term for this is a “virtual machine,” or VM for short. It’s a software emulation of a computer which allows you to run programs as if they were on a real machine. I'll help you get it set up and running, using a free software called VirtualBox.
